Any OBS users? Would love to hear what works for you....

Recommended Posts

I am learning how to make videos and had posted a very laggy test called "hotwife test" (thanks for your patience and graciousness everyone). I am having trouble getting rid of the lag. On the game it looks great- in the capture it is trash. While I'm doing my own research, I wondered if anyone has experience with OBS and have any ways they have resolved this? Or is there a better capture program to use?

(I've done the obvious things like close all background programs, devote all resources to OBS)

For now, my brain is melting...

Thanks to @HDiddy and @Smoke for your advice and critique! ( @Smoke thanks for the help with Nvidia. For now, I still can't get it to recognize the game, so rather than staying stuck, I'm going to try some alternatives to keep learning and will come back to it)

OBS is the best, but harder to set up than Shadowplay or Relive. Windows can record too. What system you have?(CPU, GPU, Ram, HDD, SSD)

CPU- intel I7 - 2.2Ghz

GPU- Intel UHD Graphics 630 (Dell)
2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 with Max-Q Design (I use this as primary)

16 gb Ram

500 gb SSD- program runs from here

1T HDD- mods are stored here

Oh, it's a laptop. Your problem may be:

1. Not enough resources to record and run the game

2. Thermal Throttling. Your system will run slower to prevent overheating

You can install afterburner if you want to find out CPU usage and temps. Another program you can use to gain performance is Cheat Engine - check Enable Speed hack box(0.9). It will slow the game down, allowing the system to render more frames. Downside is larger file size, and you have to increase the speed in a video editor.

Before that, try OBS and record some gameplay, see how it goes. You might want to lower the bit rate, I have it on high. Also change FPS and resolution In Video. To record, on main window, you add scene, window or game capture. You have to have the game running.

Note: you can't share videos with my settings. I record high quality and encode using a video editor with H.264, 6-10 bitrate

Thank you so much! I will try that out and see how it goes!

Sounds like, in your experience, it may just be that using a laptop may be the real hindrance- since it will heat up so much. But I will try anyway and see if I can get it to work!

I really appreciate your feedback!

Windows has a recorder but it sucks. And for some reason it uses more CPU resources which affects the FPS. That is why I use and suggested Shadowplay as it uses the GPU and has better management with its resources and does not affect FPS - I would imagine relive is similar to shadowplay. OBS would be the best alternative and is better than the other 3rd party video capturing.

Hmmm I use OBS on my Dell laptop with no issue I do have a 2060, but that should not be the issue.  I suggest using Simple Mode.

I also suggest using a HotKey to make things easier and I disable all recording of audio mainly because I do not use it.

I'm with you on disabling the audio- since I don't use it, I disable it. I have been using advanced and trying to enable and disable various features....so I will give simple a try and see how that goes, too.

Really helpful to get feedback on this- thank you!

why would windows DVR use CPU? It uses GPU encoder, same as Shadowplay and Relive. All 3 are about the same, different options and bugs.
