Lack of Custom Tattoo documentation

Can anyone please make a source on how to make custom tattoos? I want to convert my koikatsu skin layers over to tattoos on here but I have no clue how to, I tried asking in the BlackSheepOVCA server since they have a tk17 channel there but the only reply I got was to replace custom tattoos from another mod, but I want to learn how to make my own

You can do tattoos in two ways, the vanilla way in putting transparent pngs into Mod/ActiveMod. The name is important - so "Tattoo_Back001.png" would show up in the lower back category. A list of the names can be extracted from the game or maybe found here.
You can look at this as an example:

 

 

The second way is via hook5 skins, you can just add the tattoos and freely position them on the body.

I haven't used the H5 USS (nor can I download it bc of the site issues), but how does it fare in comparison to using regular skins? I'm very curious about it and want to see if it's a viable alternative for my mid laptop.
