Can anyone create a UV from a toy?

Wasn't sure where to post this as it's a request, but not for an addon.

The Sex Droids I've just uploaded here:  https://www.klubexile.com/files/file/8150-sci-fi-fun-sex-droids/

have always had just a single colour file as their texture.  Is it possible to create UV's for these toys to enable some slightly more menacing retextures?

I would say 'realistic' but that might be pushing it  :classic_laugh:

And if it is possible, would there be any takers willing to give it a shot?

Well there is a reason why it is a single color. The UV is a mess. Most likely it was decimated wrong causing what you see below.  The only thing someone can do is to unwrap it again and create a new addon.

Uff... total UVmap mess. And the mesh itself seems far too complex for such toy, at least from what Im seeing on UVmap. This UVmap is plainly unusable.

One would mark the seams, then unwrap the UVmap.

Just an update - seems I might be able to do something from this. and I think Droids One and Two share the same layout. The A and B variations are the same addon mesh, so it's just the 2 and I think this might have them both covered - enough at least for my intentions.

Well, It seems the model has a lot of stuff inside. And It came to my attention that one has a kind of "club" and the other has a "telescope", both I recognize as old toys from the evil corporation; I assume they were conceived as replacers. 

I thought it might help, I hope it does 😄

Enlighting a bit the whole mystery surrounding this archaeological artifacts you've found my mate I must say this:

1. These state of the art meshes are a piece of history from the rudimentary period of modsgarden modding scene (Rick9 & JohnnyUtah era, pre pervokptr Hook3 - circa 2015) which explains SovietTiger's finding of the "vanilla telescope" and "club"; which it was the old way for doing toys when they found the way back in the days, which at the same time matches with a very rudimentary way of optimization based on achieving one single object, one mesh with one material and texture by merging the whole object without even taking care of the UV map (This can be seen on many old vanilla era BDSM tools, and is the explanation for the overlapping islands)

The outcome? This mess 😊

(Note: Not every old school addon have these problems as users like JohnnyUtah and Rick9 were very savvy on the matter but others not and this one looks like it was made by someone on a rush

So?

2. Yeah; as stated above, the UV is fucked up beyond limits and screwed as hangman robes! But you still have a few chances if you want it with textures 🙂

Option A (The inventive pathway): You reprocess the mesh in Blender remap with archimap (Smart UV); create a basic UV then generate a texture with nodes (at ease and pleasure), then adjust the tiling properly with a mapping input node and finally bake the diffuse in cycles (This is important)

It will deliver a sort of organic texture, not like the one from the DAZ original asset (which is multi-material), but it will look less crappy

Option B: (Port it again straight from the source)

Here's the link to the source in renderotica, I'll let you know later this week if it's available for free in certain sites were thieves gather (If you still interested on the original textures and asset, ofc 😁)

lol addons are not as easy as some people think/claim to be. Sure, one can plop 1 in less than 5 minutes but a bunch of cut corners. Cutting corners, you get a hot mess like this.

I think that is still true to this date. Some people take their time to make a quality product others don't. Some people don't like taking their time and want to rush a product just for the sake to have it out. They get angry when you try helping them out or when you point out certain issues that you see. Not all are like that though, some do listen and some don't.

Indeed! 😁 (actually one of a couple of many probing meshes from a whole pack from the same DAZ artist)

Leaving aside a few insurmountable UV distortion in certain islands I think is possible to separate three materias and make something similar to the OG (with lynx eye and golfist patience of course 🤪

Also also, I've found the original source but is packed on a whole 1.57 GB pack of DAZ stuff that I ain't sure at all if I should download 🤷‍♂️
