After the professor debacle, Boucher spent two years on minor missions. Finally, she was deployed to the French border for a delicate assignment: spying on a journalist named Marc Simon, who was in the countryside writing about the poor conditions of small landowners following new agrarian reforms that favored large landowners. Simon was accompanied by a Polish bodyguard due to verbal threats on his life from large landowners.
Rumors also circulated about Simon possibly being a Polish spy. This suspicion arose from his inquisitiveness regarding nearby military bases, his Polish bodyguard, and notably, his Polish wife, Genowefa.
