Always Learning
Hey everyone!
I am hard at work on remaking the room! I finished the metrokab and felt emboldened to try something harder! Haha!
SO....I will try to make the spinner:
Yes, this is probably a crazy and terrible idea. But I can't help it I gotta try! So if you want to come along for the ride.....let's go!
So, I began to research these vehicles by studying models that were made for the 1982 Blade Runner film. They are amazingly detailed!
I started to make the interior seats- the model looks like this:
I could tell I had no good idea of how to make this. Only terrible ideas that would result in bad models with bad geometry. (making boolean cuts)
So I scoured the internets for how blender artists make car seats and found this great tutorial!
In it, you learn how to create from using a reference photo and positioning vertices to match and then playing "connect the dots"! This is a great way to create something from scratch and I highly recommend this video to get you a fast start on it if you want to try.
One thing that really stood out to me was the use of bevels and edge loops.
You can see my reference photo in the background. I made most of this by adding edge loops, choosing one to add bevel to and then adding another edge loop inside of that and reducing it's scale. It's kind of like putting a rubber band on a balloon.
See along the right edge how I have a third line inside the bevel (the two lines around it)?
Now if you shrink the edge loop inside, it does this:
This is very much like making a wireframe sculpture and then stretching fabric over it.
I've failed many, many times at making this and have to redo it. But the end result makes it so worthwhile!
I've worked on this off and on this week and here's how they turned out:
And, I got a bit done on the actual outside of the spinner too!
Like the little engine that could, I keep telling myself I think I can, I think I can.
But the reality is that, on the way, I will fail many times and just try to learn from it and from the thing you all make.
Alright, that's all for now....I'm going back in!
See you later
