    Sub stands for subsurface scattering. Its a way of showing blood trought the skin making it more rich of color and giving it a live like effect.

  2. I only use skin system for my models. You can change makeup on the fly, add displacement, use overlays like tattoo's and masks. Have control of skincolor all in one place. You can change your models look just by changing a layer in h5 skin GUI. Did i already mention you can mix and match normals, specs and subsurface textures?

    There are so much more options with this setup and worth the time it takes to learn it.

  3. Here is a little trick i use to prevent the black loading screen.

    Most of the time they are caused by the game menus. There doing something in the background for some strange reason. 

    I use Fraps to have a fps counter on screen. When loading the game wait for the fps jump, load on the highest fps and then move to the next loading menu. Do this on all game menus and you will have no crashes anymore.

    I do load 1 room and quit the game after.

    The reason the objects will not show is that the objects are stored in the leveldefenition file. So if you override it you will probable lose the room.

    Redownload the room and try again.

    Also make sure you are running hook 5 extended as that is the only version that can handle the objects.

    Whenever I load a room that has objects in it, it will not load the objects of the room but instead a "game-wide" setup of objects / lights I have for ALL rooms for some reason... That happens for every room

    So rooms that rely heavily on their hook5 objects (Like "The Pub") will end up empty and green, as if it's saving over the same 1 file for all of the rooms.

    I remember having a setup for each room and rooms used to load their own unique objects / light groups

    So if you look at the VX-addon.log you will see a lot of "ignore" statements. This means there are a lot of doubles in your setup. Ignoring these will take up a lot of memory.

    Find the double addons and remove them till you have no more ignores in the log.

    Best thing to do still is make a new install and add the addons you want 1 by 1 and test every one. This will give a solid start.

    Looks like you have a nice system that should not have any issues to run any of the rooms in 4 some poses at about 100 fps. that thing should fly.

    So there is definitely something going on.

    I have a simular setup like yours and most of my rooms will hit 100 fps for me. 

    I did have a issue with my monitor witch is a 144hrz. 

    Had to do some specific settings to make it work.

    1 run the default resolution of the screen 

    2 make sure the refresh rate is set to max of your monitor

    3 uncheck the limit to 120hrz (this will set it to 60 fps locked ingame)

    4 running fullscreen will make it run more stable

     

    And just for the sake of asking: did you set the 4gb patch in binaries\optionman.exe

    Could you also show a screenshot of your default settings tab in hook 5 gui? could be you have to change some stuff there. (would be wierd is it was a copy of your old machine, but still)

     

  8. The first place you want to check is your Log files.

    Check them for doubles, errors and fix them. Also check if the logfiles grow a lot after running the game.

    Also throughing in a bunch of addons is not a great way to build your game. Adding one and testing it is better.

    Its a 20 year old game so the meshes of the models cant realy be changed without losing a lot of frames and running in compatibility issues.

    What you could do is use hook extended to extract a model to zbrush. add the details there. then port it to substance painter and use the _high _low texturebuild to bake the normals from your _high zbrush mesh into a texture for the low poly game mesh.

    wrong icon to start the room. there are two icons for a room. the first one will hold the positions in the code only. The second one will hold the hook 5 objects and load the room.

    To be honest, my time for this game is currently diminishing a bit due to real life responsibilities and obligations (I'm now a full-time carer for my father).  It's still an outlet and a means of temporary mental escape for me so I'm on it when possible, but now in a rather distracted way.  Would be a shame to have a new system that's not getting the use it deserves at this point in my life...

    Man you would have loved hook 5 product placing for sure. But its a nobel thing to take care of family so i understand and respect that.

    For the charity part it would not be like that. If i look at what you can do without hook, its impressive. I would love to see what you could do with a hook setup.
