Depth of Eyes

Have you noticed a difference between the left eye and the right eye?

Recently I heard a modder of this game told that he's trying to make eyes with real depth and I'm interested in the topic. As to the depth of eyes, hook5 has a function to make fake depth using parallax, but here I'm talking about a real, physical depth. Here goes the result. In the preview, only the left eye has a depth in the mesh.

Eye mesh in this game is not high poly so the corner edge was shaped bit wildly, I thought if I got a good result then I would make the high poly version but...

It looks rather nice when viewed from an angle, but from the side...😂 ...Needs more effort I guess.

the pupil of the left eye (from our view) looks like its painted in front of the eye and the pupil of right eye looks "deeper" inside of the eye, which is just a small detail but looks better in my opinion.

Sorry, but I fail to see the difference. 🙂

No worries, cause it has a very subtle effect, almost a self-satisfaction after all.

The idea is like this. Even if I have used high poly model, the side view wouldn't be better cause the center of eyeball is lifted in real eyes, so any concavity significantly reduces the visual of eyes in game. So I need something that cover the iris up, like contact lenses, to emulate cornea. Maybe I could re-use the eyespec mesh because that is just like contact lenses.

You can make your own mesh from the standard game eye meshes, you even have access to both eyes (yes, those are separated), you can edit the vertices and even the UVs separately. So you can increase the resolution (vertex count), you can sculpt them, or separate their UVs (one robot eye or heterochromy) if you are into such mods.

Both the left and right eye iris and the eyewhite share the same uv texture spaces and are just flipped left on top of the right or the other way around. 🙂

So if you are into eye customization this should be your low hanging fruits.

Sounds great, and the girl is cute. ☺️

I wanted to know if real concavity of the eyes look better than hook5's depth parameter and as you told it wasn't a big deal. So probably I would pass this project to someone else who want to create odd eye mod. If there isn't, I might back to this though.

Girl is Blaire for Genesis 3 Female(s), original geometry but other texture applied.

I tried in the past playing with eyes, also tried some high resolution texture inspired by Kraegar's work, tried with normals and spec back and forth, after a couple of days and a ton of crashes I decided that eyes are obviously important but really NOT that important, so unless you are doing some very close up shots that highlights the eyes then there is only an insignificant benefit you can squeeze out of this.
