As difficult as this was to read, I am glad I did. A reminder that for all of the things we take for granted, as little as they are, we could be WAY worse. It's weird of me to say this knowing the overarching conflict in future Stiel Maiden... But I'm honestly rooting for John to succeed in some ways.

That being said... Thank you for bringing justice for Dani and Aura.

Response from the author:

When all is said and done, the story of John Herrig will be one told for better or worse for generations within the OzVerse. Being able to tie Aura, and by proxy Dani to that mythos is an honor.

This was easily the most gripping and grittiest entry to the series to date. We get a glimpse into what makes Herrig, see him destroy cartel members like paper bags, and witness the moment that made the hero become the villain. Of all of your tragic characters, his story is the most tragic of them all, because his experiences in life turned him from a national hero to the harbinger of war. It's heartbreaking to see even with all he's done, there's still empathy in him. He's not a complete monster, and his hate for the system is actually justified in a sick, twisted way. This was an emotional and thought provoking tale.
