Making any type of creative work...comic, video, etc... sometimes requires a level of planning or basically run the risk of something just going non stop without an end in site.  For me I try to keep to my damn scripts but he sometimes shit happens.

Sometimes this ends up being resolved by parts.   Other times just an elongated story.  Curious for the elite creators out there @Oz70NYC, @Trapp, @Xalas, @Texas Pete and others...how you keep yourselves from going off the rails.

    LOL!!

Planning? What planning, all of my stories are freestyle off the top of my head. I guess the only planning is what kind of pose I want to make for the scene/movie and that's it. A idea pop up in my head, and I begin designing my poses based on the idea I have in my head while making the pose. Once the poses are done I just make the movie, I even make up the dialogue as I go XD

Making addons requires you to take the proper steps (step 1 - step 2 - step 3 - step 4, etc). There is no magical app that is similar to the H5 exporter and many people think such app exist. Or people assume that skipping some steps will work in their favor and the expectation is not was they thought it would be.

    • You will need to learn how blender works. Its a big program. At most, you can learn the the 'basic' process (such as opening/closing blender and knowing how to transfer weights onto the clothing items, etc) that is if you really are in a hurry but IMO people set themselves up because it gonna be filled with errors as you are trying to 'speed' your way through it. But if you learn the basic functionality and move into a intermediate stage - you will be able to work at a faster pace
    • weight painting. YES you can transfer weights from the body files that is provided in CTK as that is what closely matches/or matches the same weight from the in game bodies. Though custom bodies can or cannot carry custom weight (example: f7c body mod is 'different', so is latonya, etc - as the creator had to adjust the weights properly on the body - BUT in most bodies, that 'aren't that heavily sculpted, the default weights works 99% of the time). Aside from transferring weights - you will have to learn how to weight paint, to fix certain issues and/or you will have to learn to weight in order to fulfill certain gaps/issues. This is probably where 'most' people spend their time - this is probably where I spend most of the time lol
    • You will have to learn how other program works (Daz, etc) and how certain files are exported and made (dae, 3D object, fbx, etc) For example: dae file carries the least 'errors'. 3D objects, you will need to clean up ngons, duplicates, etc. This is part of the 'optimization' process that I often do. Again, know the functionality of blender and this process shouldn't be a issue.
    • YES - you can use scripts and python, etc. What do these scripts do? If can help you 'speed' up the process of naming and setting up your parenting, childs, naming, etc (blender language) IMO - I don't like to rely on it because if a issue happens, its a nightmare locating and trouble shooting it. I like to take a hybrid step, use it if necessary, otherwise, I prefer the experience (honestly, blender is a massive program and to this day, I still learn certain features that can greatly help you out on optimizing your addon)
    • knowing how to make bats files and working with CTK. At first glance, its hard. But once you fully understand how to make a bats file. Honestly, CTK just automatically does all the work. Though something that people often don't fully grasp is that 'spelling' should be taken serious. Any misstep will completely throw the addon off track
    • Know how to read those bs files. Often you will need to input 'codes' and/or fix certain 'issues' that CTK will make/skip. In other words, you will have to fill in the blank

At the most, if you are motivated and you found your 'groove' (with blender, daz, scripting, weight painting, sculpting, etc). Believe me, you can make a addon in a couple of hours. (toys, you can literally do it in less than a hr).

I know this was about hair. Hats/hair falls in between toys and clothing items. Regardless, its still the same mindset that you will have to follow. You mentioned needing a visual. I realize that the old video was removed/disabled. I uploaded the videos tutorial made by HDiddy and me. I'll probably make a video for hats and/or hair. If others want to do so, they can also create a video tutorial.

Thanks and yea I know for sure its not easy or some magic wand to make this stuff just click. Yea Blender is something I will have to learn for sure.

It seems like you haven't received a satisfactory answer to your question yet.  If you found a solution to your question, please share here so that others including myself could learn how to port alpha blend hair.

Not really, I will have to trial and error like I did with Pose Creation back in the Garden days. Most tutorials aren't fully fleshed out or poorly explained because it assumes that you are familiar with the material. Things would be much faster If I am actually able to sit down with someone over discord and actually get a lesson of the basics. That's all I really need, I'm a visual learner, I have to see it and then I can take the rest from there.

Personally, personally... that's the only actual way of playing this game, otherwise... is a one way ticket back to Windows desktop (most of the time)

Keep all your "Not in use" stuff in cold storage (either cloud or phisical) and only the neccessary for a launch in game directory; avoid early alopeicia

Btw, am I win? I think I have the smallest number

    Screenshot_2.png

Now, cold storage is being a hassle 🤪:

    Screenshot_3.png

We may have a winner lol. But yea the rest of my space is Objects for the rooms to appear correctly and then whats left is the clothing. I can't remove objects since they are needed and I don't know what to remove as far as clothing.

  5. I was able to reduce my AM folder to 175GB by removing all the rooms from the folder. I have all my rooms backed up on my external with its Level Def settings etc. So for now on ill treat room like how I treat my poses. I only put in the poses I am using at the moment and then remove them from the game when I am done. Removing the rooms alone made the game load so much faster and refreshing it as well 🙂

Could a solution to save spece/time be to create a modified version of the Option Manager which allows different settings to be saved and managed?

I mean, I can deactivate all addons and save such Option Manager setting as "default". Then, I could activate only those fantasy I wish to use for a particular play and call it "Fantasy1". Then, I could repeat this for every alternative combination, and save all these settings in list which itself form a function of the Option Manager (a sort of meta-Option Manager).

This would make any upload and game much quicker...

    Is this a possible solution?

    Sorry for my bad english.

Good question, I would like to know but then again my Add-on folder is only 11GB.

@Xalas, as I understand you have HD spcae problem and performance problems. To reduce performance problemas without throwing away your big beautifull oversized clown shoes, or knights scarpins, you may create a "reserve" activemod folder and store there the files you will not use in a game run. Then, when you want to use something, you just cut it from your reserve and paste it in the main activemod folder.

If the problem is HD space....

    a-new-hope-trash-compactor.gif

    Or just buy more storage.

I do that too! I have two game folder, but one I just use to test crash dummies.

    oh-please.gif
    image.png

(but this is counting the reserve mod thingy I do - so, I'm techinically cheating).

    This is without the reserve:
    image.png

Yea, I know because I treat my poses that way. I never have my poses in my game, I have them on an external and organized and then just put in the poses that I want. I just never thought to apply that same method to my AM stuff.

I was in that spot, too. Gotta rip the band-aid off, my brotha. ESPECIALLY if it's an addon pre-VX. Old 7.5 addons. Doing so actually helped me optimized what older addons I wanted to keep. There's no quick and easy fix though, I pretty much spent an hour every day sorting through addons and textures to see what stayed and what got trashed.

You're right and almost finish organizing all my rooms now and have them in specific folders by type. Then I can clear a huge chunk from my AM.

Those H5 Object Rooms will get you every time, LOL.

    HA!!

    God damn XD

    3 hours ago, Oz70NYC said:

80% of my AM folder is textures. The other 20% is H5M stuff. And again as I said, this is AFTER deleting GBs of stuff over the last month and a half. Older content I haven't touched in years. Everything else is content I've downloaded from the final days of MG and KE.

I'm scared to delete anything because I don't know what is attached to what. I still have shit from the Garden days in my AM folder but to afraid to remove anything because I dunno if my models or outfit sets relied on them XD

How are you not getting constant out of memory crashes with a game folder that big? I started to get constant crashes and long load times at around 190gb. I don't know if this will help or not but I have multiple game folders to spread out my collection. For example one folder is dedicated solely to fantasy themed assets another is modern themed stuff etc.... That way no one game folder gets too bloated. If your goal is solely to save space though you might want to get a external SSD or regular external hard drive and swap things in and out of your game folder as you need them.

I have so much shit I dunno what is what at this point but thanks I will have to sort out everything XD

I don't know if anything can be done other than going one of the two possible ways 🤔

One is to go through everything and honestly remove everything you really don't use (especially reviewing the things you don't want to throw away "because they might still be useful for something", but never really were). You can also check what has the biggest textures, because really, many times those 4096x4096 things are not as necessary as you might think (especially as specular maps, to start with). As for the objects, make sure you don't have any .obj files in there, they are completely useless for anything directly in the game and were often included in packages.

The second way, of course, is to buy more disk space ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ There is no philosophy here, more space just postpones the problem for later.

I don't think there is any magical solution other than keeping things tidy at all times and keeping an eye on what you have in your installation, unfortunately 🙂

Yeah, I will have to get a External SSD because I don't want this game on my main hard drive XD

  10. My Active Mod Folder is 251 GB and I want to organize and eliminate some of this space but I don't even know where to begin. Most of my collection is mostly shoes so I need those, but I also noticed that my ![Obj] - (H5) ProjectObject folder is 37GB alone and _hook5data folder is 35GB. All the rooms I have total 94GB and the rest is various clothing and hair. It's eating up my hard drive space and running really low, I was thinking of going to SSD external for portable, is that a good idea? My PC hard drive is a 465GB SSD so its really small at the time I got this added as a second hard drive for my PC. The other drive is a standard HDD that has 7.5 installed on it.

"The DirectDraw Surface container file format (uses the filename extension DDS), is a Microsoft format for storing data compressed with the previously proprietary S3 Texture Compression (S3TC) algorithm, which can be decompressed in hardware by GPUs"

    Because it loads faster.

"PNG has the best quality, but DDS is faster and uses less memory and has pretty good quality too. There are some lossless DDS formats (which will be the same quality as a PNG) but the file size will end up bigger as those are uncompressed."

    Oh interesting. Thanks!

WHAT THE FUCK, BRO!!! I thought my AM folder was bloated, LOL!!! Mine is sitting at 221GB at the moment, and that's after purging about 1000 textures for addons I had removed. Now my addons folder...that's a fucking nightmare.

My addon folder is only 11GB, so thats not too bad but yea its the textures in my active mod that is killing my space XD

    2 minutes ago, ddman2 said:

    1. 7zip and winrar can compress dds a lot, but you can't use them.

    2. Convert them to png

Yea I was thinking PNG, it won't affect the quality of the textures will it?

  13. 35 minutes ago, Smoke said:

Reducing size; from 4K to 1K will loose the quality nature of the norms. Reducing size, will require you to trying to compress the files even more. Overall, I think the most effective means is to remove all duplicate files and have the pass files lead to a universal set of H5 files.

That makes sense, thanks! My Activemod is 247GB and would love to reduce it but I dunno what belongs to what and its a lot to sort through.

  14. My SSD hard drive is almost full and I'm already looking into getting a bigger size drive soon. But I have a question I noticed that 165GB that takes up my 465GB SSD is mostly because of the .dds files from the game. I was wondering if its possible to reduce the file sizes with a software or something? If so, will it have any impact on the quality of the resources that the .dds files belong too if the file size is reduced?

  15. 2 hours ago, Drahzar said:

yeah doable, I guess. It does make me wonder, how do you have a full SSD? Was it a small one to begin with? You really can't afford to delete some things? 1-2  TB SSDs are pretty common, do you have one smaller? Do you have that many programs?

I keep most of my stuff on either my secondary HDs, I got 2 internal HDs, got 2 external HDs. The external ones ,1 is mainly a back up for some things, while the other one is for travel while also being a back up. Basically it's best to leave the HD or SSD as clean as possible.

It was 1TB SSD but my Activemod Folder alone is damn near 500GB.

  16. 2 hours ago, Drahzar said:

It's an option like said above, but you're looking for trouble.

The docking station, I got one, basically it gets pretty hot, clearly not made to use for too long, not meant for regular use.

An external drive will disconnect & reconnect at random times, can happen mid game.

Another problem is the speed: ssd cards are insanely fast vs a regular HD, you notice it when you transfer files, it's clearly the future, though I do wonder how long these cards last.

I do think it's useful to keep a HD for back up, even keep 2 just in case. I had 3, 1 broke on me, still own 2 and I do have another internal HD. In time I will try to get me a another bigger internal and another external HD, stuff just breaks over time.

Is your laptop/pc that old that you don't have any more space left? You'll have to replace it sooner or later, the specs don't matter that much to this game, though you do need a decent enough video card still, new PC usually solves the space issue, HDs & SSDs are cheaper & cheaper.

I have custom built PC, really powerful but my SSD is super low on space. I was wondering if I could just run the game off a External SSD of course just get a extra USB 3.0 and I should be good to go, right?

  17. I woke up this morning and decided that I want to start creating add-ons beginning with hair first. I looked for tutorials here and there is nothing related to it, there is only Hairworks tutorials which is something I don't want to learn let. I'll eventually graduate to that point but I just want to port hair for now and get use to how this stuff works.

I only play on the PC, I've never been able to do anything with consoles. I don't know why, it's always been like that.

I just started gaming on PC more than my consoles now. I've been a console kid my whole life but since I animate, film, edit, create youtube and twitch content, everything is done on my PC. So I've been repurchasing all of my fighting games off steam.

Ok, this is my opinion here but I think males are cursed lol. Male textures are 'always' creating a weird mismatch. I think that is why some people put a bag/bucket on the males head just to hide that issue lol

Here are mine. And this is me heavily using skin layer to 'remove' that.

    Neck01.jpg

    Now look at the female.

    Neck02.jpg

And notice the Hook5 displacement. That is why I think it will not work. Its the same texture size, dimensions, etc. And it still is off lol. Though someone is welcome to prove me wrong and can create it and share it with the rest of us.

lol I thought you said it didn't change it that much and required little tweaking. Jokes aside, that is what I meant, it can alter drastically or not - that would be dependent on how much YOU altered it.

When placing the mouse on the neck and pulling on it it slightly moves it which doesn't change it by much. So its my model its noticable but and others will not notice the difference. But if you mess with the sliders itself which I was referring too, it messes with the face a lot. Yea I also think male models are cursed too lol.

  20. 1 minute ago, Smoke said:

I think its dependent on how you created the face. This is the "chin" that creates the issue, so the the most you "sculpt" the face, the more you shape that weird atom apple. You can technically "smooth" it off with all faces but like I said, it 'resets' the face to a prefix and will require you to adjust the face again.

You're right because when I adjust the Chin and neck slider in the advance face tab it resolves the problem but does alter the face a lot. Yea its the limits of the program then. So the more intricate the face the more the issue will occur.
