Name: Sho Shinoda

Age: 32

Height: 6'4"

Weight: 198lbs.

Nationality: American

Ethnicity: Japanese

Relatives: Hiro Shinoda (Father), Hikaru Shinoda (Mother), Katsuo Shinoda (Younger Brother), Hisako Shinoda (Younger Sister)

Occupation: Street Fighter, Yakuza Underboss

Character Type: Brash/Unhinged/Short-tempered/Vengful

Musical Representation:

Prodigal son of the Shinoda clan...and one of the most dangerous men walking the Earth. Sho Shinoda is a man with a history bathed in blood. Murderous, sociopathic and idyllic...Sho has lived his life in service to his clan and his father, Hiro. Due to the brutal upbringing at the hands of his father in the ways of Hakai-Ken, he has embraced the more murderous aspects of the art, creating his own form of the style he calls "Hakai-Shin" (True Destruction). At 14, when Hiro adopted a young Gerard Yaz off of the streets, Sho at 1st took offense to this, and the 2 young men had a bitter rivalry amongst each other. But within a year, Sho realized Yaz was a prodigy at combat, and decided he'd be best suited embracing his new adopted "brother"...since he would clearly be a ranking member of the clan when it became time for him to assume control from his father. Sho & Yaz would soon form a friendship, which would then grow into a sworn brotherhood. In the midst of turmoil brewing in Japan due to the events happening surrounding the Alpha Liberation Army (ALA), the most powerful of clans in the world, the Tennouji...seem to be on the cusp of a civil war. This unrest has spilled over to the other clans, as sides are being chosen of which of the 2 Tennouji heirs to follow. Hiro has thus far remained neutral, as whichever side he honors will likely be the victor...and he sees no gain in fracturing the clans over something so trivia. Sho however...sees things vastly different from his father.

Take a glimpse at the heart of utter murderous madness. Sho Shinoda is NOT an honorable man. He's violent. He's cutthroat. He's certifiable. He also happens to be a world class fighter and a master of several weapon styles, his favorite being the Japanese long sword...the Ōdachi. Whereas Yaz has humility and is rarely bothered, Sho is arrogant and is easily angered. Many within the underworld fear him for this fact, even those among his own clan. The only men who don't are Yaz and Hiro himself. The brotherhood between Sho and Yaz is well known throughout the underworld, and they've stood as the primary guardians of Shinoda interests within Empire City since their early 20s. As a person, Sho is a total piece of shit. A womanizer. A misogynist. You name it. He believes that all things must be earned by might, and if you're too weak to take what you want...you don't deserve it. Piece of shit as he is, he defends his family and allies with the fury of a raging storm...and is especially critical of anyone eyeing his younger sister Hisako, widely regarded as the most beautiful woman in all of the higher AND lower clans. Make no mistake, when Sho is around, death isn't far behind.

He's giving serious Goh Hinazuki from Virtual Fighter vibes. What intrigues me the most about the way you're setting up Magnum Opus is how the characters are technically all "bad-guys". They're Yakuza, so that means they're inherently on the other side of the law. So I'm taking it that the overarching story is going to be from the perspective of those in the criminal world of Empire City? And you had mentioned in the past that there'd be no cross over between MO and Stiel Maiden, yet the events that I assume will unfold in SM with Raisha El in Japan will have blowback in this story at some point with the Tennouji clan? We're already just a prologue in and I've already got so many questions LOL.

Initially that was the plan...but the ideas started flowing and it just makes the most to have some crossover between both stories. Emphasis on "some". Elements of each story will bleed into the other, and certain characters who fit within both will appear (example: OBVIOUSLY when shit hits the fan in Japan, Ayla El will make and appearance in MO). But for the most part both stories will remain adjacent to, coming together for VERY specific moments. As for my other 2 stories...events of both MO and SM will be reflected...but only specific characters will make appearances (Such as Lori & James appearing in TLWL and Sylas Greenly appearing in SM). That's the plan...for now at least. Bubblee & Victoria kinda blows the lid off of things and TBH I'm still conjuring (pun intended) the overarching story outside of Vozanath. She's more of a "long term" antagonist.

As for Sho's inspiration, he's inspired by the art of Sung Eun Kim...aka KSE332, as will be most of the Yakuza characters featured.

So how does Sho stack up to Gerard in terms of skill? You mentioned in your last blog post that Gerard is the pinnacle in terms of fighting ability amongst the mortal characters in your universe. I'd assume Sho is probably not far off from him.

As far as skill, Yaz is the better of the 2. As far as physical ability, they're dead even. In terms of "power"...well, that's to be revealed...lol.

"Sho's mother is named Hikaru?!?! 😱"

Yeah, I know Hikaru is a name that can be used for both males and females. It's doubly hilarious because "Hikaru Shinoda" is my Hikaru's birth name. This blog might be one of my favorite character profiles you've done so far, not just for the bias for the surname and its underworld organization relationship, but because that surname has been a part of my life for nearly 24 years (as most people familiar with Linkin Park, duh...) but making it your own, even though the similes are there, that's what separates quality levels between my "Shinoda" and yours.

Both Hikaru and Sho are products of their environment. In Sho's case, his "force of nature" ways are sending him down a path of destruction, which honestly seems more interesting and compelling than Hikaru's "force of nature" which instead yearns for peace and feels pain for every life he took both as an assassin and as a soldier. Hikaru would definitely be destroyed by Sho if push came to shove.

The difference between them is that, even though both of them were harshly trained and refined into forces of nature, Hikaru was shunned and dejected by his own family for being born a bastard son and ruining a potential alliance. His training was never done out of pride or purpose, but rather, as means of "doing the clan's petty, dirty work". Sho, from my own perspective, was set for greatness from the beginning. And of course, he was going to suffer for it.

I cannot wait to see this monster unleashed.

Sho's side story is going to be VERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRY interesting, and I don't plan on wasting time establishing it. As I said, Sho uses an offshoot of Hakai-Ken he calls Hakai-Shin, and his sidestory will very much be rooted in it, as well as Hakai-Ken's true origins. I can't spoil it, but it will tie into another character in another of my work. When it happens...it's gonna be mind blowing. In fact, his very 1st appearance is pretty much going to set the stage as to what to expect from him going forward.
